I came across a new platform that I thought I would try. I first heard about it after Pat Flynn shared it on Facebook. It immediately caught my eye as something that was innovative and refreshing.
Down below you’ll see a video where I walk you through everything I did. But first, what is it?
It’s called Thunderclap and it’s a crowd-speaking platform.
What is a Thunderclap Campaign?
Crowd-speaking? Yes, crowd-speaking.
You may have heard about crowd-funding, crowd-sourcing, etc but this is a new one. Crowd-speaking is when you use a tool like Thunderclap to create a campaign that will simultaneously send a preset message across multiple users’ social media channels. If you sign up to support a campaign, you will be one of the voices automatically texting or posting the same message as everyone else, at the exact same time. Pretty cool, right?
I immediately had an idea. I wanted to create a movement recognizing dads. It’s about a month before Father’s Day and what better time than now?
I want to see how many people will sign up to shout out loud, across the world, at the same exact time, a simple message proclaiming their love and appreciation for the men in their lives who are fathers.
How to Create Your Own Thunderclap Campaign?
The video below shows you exactly how I created the campaign. I’m hoping you’ll jump onboard and support my campaign HERE. We can create a movement to blast our collective message on June 15, 2014 at 6:15pm EST (Get the time thing I did there? Clever right?)
If you ARE interested in creating a campaign of your own, here are some things to do before you start:
- – Think of a campaign you are passionate about. Don’t just clutter the web with something trivial. Think of something that really means something to you and that you want the world to collectively shout out about. Have fun with it!
- – Make sure you have your graphic you are going to be using. It will need to be 600px x 280px. Make it visually appealing so you draw your audience in. Here is the graphic I’m using:
- – Create the text you’ll be using for the actual campaign. While you can input this information during the formation of the campaign, I found it easier to draft the text prior to filling in the form on the Thunderclap website.
- – Come up with a hashtag and see if you can get it trending. I chose #RealMenRealDads to reflect the fact that it takes real men to be real dads.
- – Create a landing page where people can click once they receive the preset message that gets fired off as part of the Thunderclap campaign. For instance, I created a landing page using LeadPages. Click HERE to check out my landing page. I’m not looking for opt-ins necessarily, but I’m putting the option there for those that land there. If my message means something to them, they can sign up and join the community. If not, no biggie. I really just want to celebrate Father’s Day in a big way.
Would you do your own campaign? How can you see the technology of crowd-speaking being applied in today’s world? I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences using the platform.
